Selling bikes for cash
If you would like to sell your bike outright- on the spot- and get cash right now, this is the option for you. Typically we pay cash for bikes that we intend to sell for less than $500. We use bicyclebluebook.com to determine the value and set a sale price. We usually pay about half of what we intend to sell it for. That amount is dependent on the condition of the bike at the time of sale. Although we do purchase bikes that are in need of work, you will make more money if it is clean and functions well.
If this sounds like the option for you- just bring your bike in during normal store hours and we will gladly have a look!
Selling bikes on consignment
Need to make room in the garage/basement/yard/roof rack/etc? Want to make some extra cash to buy a new bike? Moving and can't take it with you? Revolutions is a great place to sell your used bike!
How it works
Bring in the bike and we will sell it on consignment for you. Consignment means you are paid once it sells instead of up front. This means you make more money than if we paid cash on the spot.
The split is 65/35- we agree to give you 65% of the sale price of the bike (we keep 35%) once the bike has actually sold.
When you bring in your bike, we'll put in on the bike stand and have a look. We'll run through the gears, test the brakes, look at the tires, the frame, suspension etc. We use bicyclebluebook.com as a reference for pricing. We also take into consideration demand for that type and size of bike, time of year and other factors that may affect pricing. Typically, we do not consign bikes priced under $200. At that point, we would offer a cash purchase on the spot instead of consignment.
Once we determine a price for your bike, we will also pre-determine when the price will drop (every two weeks), what those prices will be and the bike's "expiration date", or when you will need to come get it if it does not sell (typically six weeks). Price drops are indicated on the price tag, creating tension and anticipation to potential buyers (this is a good thing). Ex. "Should I wait until the price drops or just buy it now?!" Decisions, decisions...
If your bike goes to the expiration date unsold, we will contact you to come pick it up. At that point, we could renegotiate the price and start it again.
Sounds good to me!
