THE BIKE SHAM (scavenger hunt around Marquette)
Revolutions and the Outdoor Recreation Center at NMU are putting on a Bike S.H.A.M! (Scavenger Hunt Around Marquette!)
Participants will register as individuals ($10 registration fee) or as a team of three ($30 registration fee). Teams may be mixed gender. All the proceeds will go towards the Revolutions youth program and shop.
What the heck is it!?!
The SHAM is a scavenger hunt bike race that will take participants up the three highest peaks in Marquette as well as to some other fun and interesting stops along the way. The race will have no set course- you choose the route to the required stops. Take the bike path, roads, single track trails or your own secret shortcut (shhhh!). Part alley cat, part scavenger hunt, part mountain bike-ish.... be prepared to truck hard and have a ton of fun. You'll be saying "wow" all the time!
When is it?
Sunday, September 20th.
Packet pick-up and day-of registration is from 11-11:30 AM.
The SHAM race begins at noon.
Where is it?
The SHAM will begin and end at the PEIF building at Northern Michigan University (specifically, in front of the main entrance on the West side of the building). The scavenger hunt race will take place all over the city of Marquette.
Who can participate?
ANYONE can participate in the SHAM. Expect to ride about 10 miles, so you have to be able to do that :)
Do I need a fancy bike?
Absolutely not. You do need a bike that works- shifts, brakes and rides safely. Super-skinny tires will have a hard time on the dirt portions, but a hardcore mountain bike is not required either.
Do I need to bring anything else?
Yes! All participants are required to wear a bicycle helmet during the event. Standard riding accessories apply too- water bottle, snacks and a small tool kit are recommended. You will also need to exercise good judgment in your race route and proper riding techniques. For example, if you choose to ride on roads, you must obey all traffic laws, signal and not ride like a jerk.
I'm going to win, what will I get?
Prizes! There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers in both the team and individual men's and women's race categories. Prizes will be given out at the official Awards Ceremony at approximately 4PM at the PEIF (or whenever the last finishers come in).
How about swag for the event?
Maybe, we'll see.
How do I sign up?
Click the individual or team button on the right hand side. You will be directed through a registration page and then to a payment page.
The use of performance enhancing drugs is strictly prohibited. All racers will be required to submit a urine sample 24 hours before the race. Just kidding :)
Our race will not look like this. No spandex necessary.
